The Opportunity
The Policy and Government Affairs Manager will support the development and execution of Emerson Collective’s federal policy priorities. Based in Washington, DC and reporting to the Managing Director, Policy and Government Affairs, the person will help manage internal EC committees, analyze legislation, help draft policy recommendations, and expand relationships with key decision-makers.
Role and Responsibilities
- Coordinate EC-wide policy committees to help drive work forward: set agendas, ensure alignment across teams, and track work plans, deliverables and timelines
- Conduct research, analyze policy and draft memos
- Track legislation, hearings, votes, and statements on climate and other policies
- Manage logistics and administrative functions related to the EC’s work to coordinate federal advocacy efforts with our partners
- Act as a point of contact with internal and external partners on federal advocacy
- Help manage operations related to federal advocacy such as tracking metrics and impact
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
- 4-6 years’ experience working in policy, with experience working on national climate-related issues preferred
- Experience working on federal policy
- Strong project management skills with experience successfully coordinating complex cross-functional initiatives
- Experience conducting research and analysis to develop strategic frameworks and recommendations
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and eagerness to learn quickly and independently
- Strong organization and prioritization skills
- Comfort in fast-moving, entrepreneurial, dynamic environments
- Experience effectively incorporating diverse, frontline perspectives and considerations of equity into strategic decision-making
Location
Emerson Collective is a Bay Area-based organization with offices in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. This position is located in Washington, DC and is onsite four days per week.
