Data Scientist, Merchant Observability
Adyen
This is Adyen
Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.
For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. The people of Adyen are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.
This is Merchant Observability
The Merchant Observability team, part of Adyen’s Data Solution, builds systems to detect anomalous behavior in our merchants’ payment flows–think sudden drops in transaction volumes, or downwardly-trending payment authorization rates. We also ensure that the generated alerts are automatically routed to the team best able to resolve the underlying issue, e.g. account management for integration misconfigurations, technical support duty for platform bugs, or risk for fraud attacks. As a team, we value initiative and empowerment and strive to create a psychologically safe working environment.
Data Scientist
Adyen is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Merchant Observability team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will:
- Apply time series analysis and anomaly detection techniques to uncover fine-grained disruptions in our merchant's payment flows.
- Employ explainability and classification technology to categorize found anomalies to ensure they can be sent to the team best suited to resolve them.
- Develop orchestrated pipelines for ETL purposes and machine learning training.
- Iterate with internal stakeholders to improve the quality of the signals generated.
- Set up and run experiments to validate hypotheses.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field, and apply this knowledge where applicable.
Who you are
- You have 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist.
- You have experience developing, training, validating, benchmarking and monitoring machine learning algorithms.
- You have experience leveraging a big data framework to create the ETL pipelines needed to feed the models with appropriate data.
- You approach problems with a statistical mindset, keeping inference as a product of data science. Experience with statistical testing (confidence interval evaluation, p-value calculation, Bayesian inference) is a plus.
- You have experience taking the lead on projects: translating product requirements into engineering tasks, owning the development timeline, taking the initiative to liaise with stakeholders to clarify requirements or solicit feedback.
- You can communicate complex outcomes with clarity over a wide range of audiences.
- Technologies: Extensive knowledge of data science and Python development tooling, such as e.g. PySpark, Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, Pandas, Airflow, Pytest, Prophet, SQL.
- Mentality: An experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality. A strong statistics/mathematics background is a plus.
